Lori Reece turns own November celebration into huge gift for others: $19,475 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs

BELLINGHAM, WA, November 23, 2021 –

Founder and CEO of RE/MAX Whatcom County believes in giving back to community.

On birthdays, most people enjoy celebratory dinners, nights out, or weekend getaways.

Lori Reece, founder and CEO of RE/MAX Whatcom County, celebrates her birthday with her signature giving-back-to-the-community style. Leading up to her November birthday, she asks for gifts—not for her, of course—but for one of her favorite causes: the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County.

And this year’s gift, to a nonprofit that helps children in our county, was significant.

Rising to the match challenge, RE/MAX Whatcom County brokers, family and friends gave $9,475. Lori, along with highly respected agents Kristi Lovick Coy and Pete Coy, matched donations (up to $5,000) for a total $19,475 gift to the local Boys & Girls Club.

The gift was over $3,000 more than last year’s donation. In her thoughtful thank-you (www.facebook.com/pg/remaxwhatcomcounty/posts), Lori said of last year’s record, “We didn’t just break it. We blew through it.”

In her own recent reflection, RE/MAX broker Rachael Wilson perfectly captured the mission-oriented—not just profit-driven—culture that Lori, managing broker and mentor, wants. “RE/MAX agents feel passionate about giving back to their community,” Rachael wrote. “Each has an inner monologue that says, ‘WORK HARD, BE NICE!’”

In the report back to her colleagues, Lori gave a “special shout-out to Chris and Karen Weitzel” for their significant gift. She emphasized, “No matter how big or small your contribution was, every single dollar makes a difference.”

“Oh my goodness, I cannot believe how successful your ‘Week to Give’ was!” said chief development officer, Sara L. Maloney, for the Boys & Girls Club. Sara exclaimed, “It seemed like the gifts kept coming!”

Of her RE/MAX family’s generosity, Lori summed up, “That was the best birthday ever.”

Did you know?

When the school days ends, nearly 4,000 young people are welcomed into the safe and positive environments of the Boys & Girls Clubs across Whatcom County. Thousands of families love this non-profit for their affordable, after-school youth services.
